HOPE’S COUNSEL.

Let us be happy while we may,
Nor speak of coming sorrow:
Why mar the pleasure of to-day
By thinking of to-morrow?

Some clouds may fall (perchance too soon!)
Around our pathway streaming,
So must the brilliant sky of noon
Fade in the gloom of evening.

But darken not the fleeting hours
While yet the sun is shining,
Nor dim the joys that still are ours
By weak and vain repining.

Some fairy days of bliss we yet
From Life’s short term may borrow,
And lingering in their light, forget
The griefs which come to-morrow.
